sexual abuse is common amongst pre-pubescent girls by someone in a position of authority. They have the trust of the child, which enables them to elude the child into participating in sexual acts. When the child is older, the perpetrator uses manipulation tactics to encourage the child to participate and remain silent about the abuse.  

sexual abuse is by an adult or older adolescent who abuses a child for sexual stimulation. Pressuring a child to engage in sexual activities, indecent exposure of the genitals to a child, displaying pornography to a child, actual sexual contact against a child, physical contact with the child's genitals, viewing of the child's genitalia, or using a child to produce child pornography.  

There are common signs of abuse, but it is not to assume that all adolescents will display the same characteristics. A few indicators would be: (1) Compulsion with a specific person of the opposite sex
(2) Intimidated about their body especially when transitioning into maturity (3) Acting out in sexually explicit manner
(4) Drastic change in temperament
(5) Depression
(6) Withdrawn

sexual assault is about domininance and exploiting the vulnerabilities of a woman.  Sexual assault an assault of a sexual nature on another person. Although sexual assaults most frequently by a man on a woman, it may be by a man on a man, woman on a man or woman on a woman, or adult on a child. Sexual assaults are associated with the crime of rape, forced vaginal, anal or oral penetration, forced sexual intercourse, inappropriate touching, forced kissing.  

sexual assault or sexual abuse is NEVER the fault of the victim, but they often feel isolated and annihilated. No one person necessarily handles their victimization in the same manner. However, there are commonalities that are characteristic of victims or sexual assault and sexual abuse.
For women that have been sexually abused or assaulted that has not addressed the psychological issues following abuse typically experience at least one of the following:
  • Poor Self-Image Eating Disorders (Bulimia Nervosa, Anorexia)
  • Self-Destructive Behavior
  • Promiscuity
  • Social Instability
  • Distorted perception of personal relationships
  • Social-maladjustment Issues with perceiving reality from fiction
  • Sex as a form of control
  • Depression
  • Isolation
  • Withdrawal
  • Self-Destructive Behavior
  • Suicidal
